ARTSMITH CORNER

The Full Story

Thank you for visiting Artsmith Corner! I'm truly honored that you have taken the time to visit this section of my site. As an artist you spend hours alone with paints and brushes wondering if what you create is worthy.  Sometimes the paints seem like they are flowing straight from your mind to the canvas and other times, like they are your worst enemy, refusing to bend to your will. I appreciate that you are interested in connecting with me and my art a little more!

The Artsmith

Hello! I'm Clayton Taylor, a Texas based artist, living in an unincorporated area outside Dallas with my beautiful wife, two dogs and a flock of slightly spoiled chickens. When I'm not painting, I enjoy spending time with our family (3 children, 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren).

My story is a short and simple one. I was born in Southern Oklahoma in the 1960's and raised in North Texas. Most of my childhood was spent on my grandparents’ homestead amongst hay fields and cotton. I've always enjoyed the outdoors and the beauty of God's creations but never considered expressing it artistically until late 2023 after a serious head injury and subsequent craniotomy and brain surgery. Normally a very active person, the recovery process was unfavorable to say the least.  My wife, after seeing the difficulty I was having being homebound, suggested I find a hobby.

Never having any formal art training, I didn't necessarily choose painting as a hobby, rather it chose me. One day I came across a few craft paints and canvases in a dollar store and decided to give it a try. The feeling I got from completing that first piece of art has had me hooked ever since.

Thanks to the encouragement of my family and friends, I have decided to share my art with you.

The Corner

All of my artwork, so far, has been done in a 3 foot by 3 foot corner of our home in North Central Texas.
